Welcome to the 91st Annual Days of ’76!

Welcome to the 91st Annual Days of ’76!

Each year is truly a special year for the Days of ’76. 2013 marks the 91st year of this historical event, with last year’s event taking home its 13th PRCA Rodeo of the Year honor. For over 90 years, the Days of ‘76 has entertained crowds in Deadwood, crowning numerous rodeo champs with buckles and cash prizes. This year will also mark another milestone: this is the first year a woman will lead the Days of ’76 Committee.

Now, don’t ya go thinking anything will change ‘girl-like,’ because that’s the furthest from the truth. Growing up in Deadwood, the Days of '76 played a big part of our family tradition each summer for as long as I can remember. The parade on Friday and Saturday and the afternoon rodeo on Sunday...then, volunteering as an usherette, (a very big deal by the way) in my early teens. Then, I meet and fell in love with a cowboy that was very involved in the Days of '76 and so, to be with him, I started to volunteer and was eventually elected to the Days of '76 Executive Committee.

We, and those friends who’ve been in the seat before me, or on the edge of said seat, in the historic Days of '76 Arena, know why the Award-Winning Days of ’76 is the “Best Rodeo. No Bull.” We hope you’ll find yourself alongside us this year. This premiere Black Hills event will be hosted July 23-27, 2013  with five action-packed PRCA Rodeo performances, Progressive Steer Roping, Timed Events Slack, two of the nation’s longest historical parades and more fun than a whole family could hope to have while in Deadwood,  a vacation destination in its own right.
I’m proud and humbled to be a part of this premier event that is steeped in  the tradition that has built the Days of ’76, and even prouder to lead this dedicated committee of men and women as we embark on our 91st year. But, it is our fans that spur us on to be better every year! And, for this we cannot thank you enough.

So on behalf of my fellow Days of ’76 Committee members, Deadwood Historic Preservation,  City of Deadwood, our sponsors,  cowboys, cowgirls and the countless volunteers  that make the rodeos and parades such a success, I invite you to the Award Winning Days of ’76 Celebration and make this tradition your own. Dust off those boots and make plans for one of the best events in the Midwest.
