Deadwood’s Days of ’76 wins 12th Rodeo of the Year Award
Historic rodeo wins 8th consecutive Medium Outdoor Rodeo of the Year award, 12th overall PRCA award
DEADWOOD, S.D. (12/1/2011) – Make that an even dozen for Deadwood’s Days of ’76 Rodeo. The Days of ’76, one of the Black Hills’ premiere special events for the past 89 years, has once again been named PRCA’s Medium Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. The award was bestowed to Days Committee members Wednesday (Nov. 30, 2011) in Las Vegas during the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s (PRCA) National Convention.
This is the eighth consecutive Medium Rodeo of the Year Award for the Days of ’76; before that, the rodeo took home four straight Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year honors.
“We are absolutely humbled to win our eighth consecutive Rodeo of the Year Award. We strive to better ourselves each year, and this all-volunteer Days of ’76 Committee digs in to make it happen,” said Pat Kinghorn, 2011 Days of ’76 Committee Chairman. “There are a lot of top-notch rodeos out there, so even being nominated is an honor. While we are ecstatic over winning, we aren’t resting on our laurels and will continue working hard to make our rodeo even better for the Deadwood community, cowboys, cowgirls, stock contractors, spectators and everyone else who plays a role in our success.”
Nominated alongside the Days of ’76 in the Medium Outdoor Rodeo category were rodeos in Estes Park, Colo., Gunnison, Colo., Ogden, Utah, and the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo in Abilene, Kan. More than 130 PRCA Rodeos take place annually in the category.
The 90th annual Days of ’76 Rodeo – which includes two historic parades on Deadwood’s Main Street – will be held July 24 to 28, 2012. For ticket information call 888-838-BULL or http://www.daysof76.com
